Pensions Directorate delays promotions

The following details have been supplied by the PCS DWP Group:

“Pensions have recently confirmed to us that staff successful in their applications for promotion will be released in tranches, meaning that some staff will miss the date from which they have been offered a post.

Everyone offered a post will be able to successfully take up that post, but it is likely to be at a later date than notified.

Naturally PCS members have been outraged by this. The whole purpose of bringing operational arms of DWP under one hat was to ensure efficient workforce planning so that this wouldn’t happen. There are lessons to be learnt and we will take these up with Senior Managers.

We have asked that staff impacted by this decision to delay release in Pensions Directorate are promoted substantively from the date they were offered the posts in other parts of the business and paid at the appropriate level.

Sporadic reports from some reps have suggested that some managers in PD are advising staff that if they resign, they can take up their promotion more quickly. This is very poor advice.

PCS members can raise their dissatisfaction about these delays locally, and it will be discussed with national Pensions management on 8th February 2016, to ensure the speediest and most satisfactory outcome possible.”
