Backdating Membership, and are you in the correct branch?

UNION MEMBERSHIP – ARE YOU IN THE CORRECT BRANCH AND REMINDER ABOUT BACKDATING OF MEMBERSHIP

August 2015 was the final opportunity for members to switch from payment of subscriptions direct from their wages (by a means known as check off). PCS challenged in Court the legality of the removal of check-off facility and won.

Despite all the publicity surrounding the ending of check-off and all the reminders people who didn’t switch are still approaching the Branch wanting support from the Branch in terms of advice and guidance or representation, despite the fact that they are no longer a member.

Also there has been an influx of people moving to the sites covered by the Branch in terms of people transferring and being recruited. Often we receive requests from potential members to join the union and to have their personal cases immediately taken up effectively backdating membership cover, when we explain the reality of situation, people often get upset.

TRANSFERS IN

We would like to ensure that the Branch communicates with the members. The Branch, at present, issues materials electronically on a cascade basis through room/ area distribution agents, and directly by e-mail. If you have moved to the site to help us communicate effectively we would need to transfer your details onto the Branch records.

 IMPORTANT REMINDER!

From 1st January 2004 we have followed Public and Commercial Services Union National policy and no longer back date cover in any circumstances – whatever the reason is for non-members wanting advice/ guidance or backdated representation. We believe that this reminder is needed as the phone calls, e-mails or arrivals in the office keep coming.

Remember

PCS isn’t just about individual representation; collectively PCS campaigns on key matters such as pay, pensions, jobs (including redundancy terms) and conditions of service.

If you want a voice on these vitally important issues then join PCS.

At the end of this circular is a tear off for you to request a membership form.

You become a member when you sign and return the membership form (provided that we receive the form in a reasonable timeframe).

NO MEMBERSHIP = NO BACKDATED REPRESENTATION OR ADVICE

CAN YOU AFFORD NOT TO JOIN

Yours sincerely
