Trade unions and employers are dealing with an increasingly diverse workforce. There are higher numbers of women and people from black and minority ethnic (BME) communities in the workforce than ever before. The population is aging, with many women intending to stay in work for longer and many trying to juggle work with caring responsibilities.
PCS DWP Fylde branch are in the process of setting up a subcommittee specifically to discuss and address the issues faced by women in and around the workplace.
Why a Women’s committee?
It will provide a platform for staff to feed into the branch’s work with Female employees.
It will help to set some priorities for the work of the Equal Opportunities Officer.
It will provide an opportunity to feed into and hopefully host events, policy and campaigns around women’s issues.
The women’s member group (known as a self-organised group) will be involved in campaigns for equality in the workplace and for improvements to women’s rights in the workplace and in the wider community.
It will also support campaigns aimed at improving women’s lives – for example, to change the law to protect women experiencing domestic violence, or to raise awareness of health issues which mainly affect women.
Our women members’ role is much wider than campaigning for equality and against harassment. Becoming a member means that you encourage and organise activity in every aspect of the workplace.
If you feel like you want to get involved or require any further information, please contact our Equality Officer by Email: Lawder Katya PENSIONS DLA65+ or KATYA.LAWDER@DWP.GSI.GOV.UK
