PCS comment on Tory DUP UK government agreement

As the Conservative party agrees a deal with the DUP to support Theresa May’s minority government in the House of Commons, we reiterate our commitment to equality.

The Tories have no mandate to row back on hard-fought legal rights of the kind opposed by the DUP.

For example, the DUP blocked both the extension of equal marriage to Northern Ireland and the roll-out of the 1967 Abortion Act. Many of its senior representatives are on the record making deeply homophobic statements.

PCS will be working with other campaign groups to oppose any proposals that could compromise the protection people have under the law.

Equality is at the heart of everything we do, and we always work to tackle discrimination in the workplace, society and the wider world.

We call on all political parties to oppose any attempt to turn back the clock on equal rights.
