On 8th December in response to the surge in Omicron variat covid cases the Prime Minister announced Plan B.The plan introduced a raft of measures designed to protect society from the latest variant of the virus. On 9th December the DWP Permanent Secretary announced that “from Friday 10 December onwards, DWP colleagues in England in non-customer-facing corporate and back of house roles should work from home if they can.”“This does not impact those colleagues delivering face-to-face services in our jobcentres in front of house roles, where the key worker status remains in place. Colleagues in these roles are expected to continue to attend the office to ensure we can continue to deliver our full face-to-face service offer as we do today.”Prior to the announcement PCS argued that the Department should close Jobcentres to all but the most vulnerable customers who should be seen by appointment only.We received an unprecedented response from members working in Jobcentres expressing their outrage that they were expected to come to work in the Jobcentres putting their lives and those of their families and communities at risk to deliver a role that they had previously proven for months on end could be delivered remotely. In response to that anger PCS is calling a meeting for all members working in Jobcentres where senior GEC members will explain what has happened so far and what members can do to keep themselves safe.

The meeting will be at 6pm Thursday 16th December by Zoom. See link below
